Love the look of the new 812 12-fret (besides the pickguard) Biggest issue for me is the slotted headstock. I think Slotted headstock looks fantastic but I've never tried changing strings on one of these. The necks are a traditional Rickenbacker dual truss rod style and the headstock is the classic Rickenbacker 12 setup with 6 tuners out the sides and 6 tuners out the back. That means six use traditional posts and the other six use the roller type one finds in a slotted headstock. Martin also opted to use a slotted headstock, which makes restringing more of a chore than it would otherwise be. I suspect a lot of players complained about the slotted headstock because in 1970 Martin introduced the D12-28 which had a solid headstock and 14-fret neck. I don't think the D-12-28 sounds as good as a D-12-20 but they sure are.

I don't think there would be any real tonal difference from a slotted headstock if the nut and saddle are otherwise the same. Slotted headstocks are the norm with classical guitars. Personally, I think they look kinda classy. A slotted headstock could be lighter weight than a solid one, so that might make a difference in how the instrument/neck.
